Both options attach to dental implants. The difference is how — and what they cost. Here's a clear comparison so you can walk into your consultation informed.

Snap-on overdentures

A snap-on overdenture clips onto 3 implants (lower) or 4 implants (upper) using locator-style attachments. You take it out at home to clean it, and it snaps back rock-solid.

  • ✔ Dramatically more stable than a traditional denture
  • ✔ Easy to clean and maintain at home
  • ✔ Attachments are replaceable as they wear — low upkeep cost
  • ✔ Far more affordable than fixed

At Dentures Direct, the overdenture is a flat $5,250 per arch (implant surgery quoted separately). For most patients fighting a loose lower, this is the sweet spot.

Fixed dentures (All-on-4)

An All-on-4 is screwed permanently onto 4+ implants and only removed by a professional. It feels closest to natural teeth.

  • ✔ Maximum stability for eating and speaking
  • ✔ Never removed at home
  • ✖ Significantly more expensive — often $25,000+ per arch
  • ✖ Cleaning underneath takes more effort and technique

How to choose

If you want near-fixed stability at a fraction of the price and don't mind removing it to clean, snap-on wins for most people. If you want teeth that never come out and budget isn't the constraint, All-on-4 delivers. We'll tell you honestly which makes sense for your bone, your goals, and your budget — see the full cost breakdown or the implant overdenture guide.
